Although people planning a vacation in Florida often concentrate on places like Walt Disney World, Miami Beach and Palm Beach, there are miles of white sand beaches which lie along both the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf Coast of Florida. Unlike other Atlantic Coast beaches, Florida’s sandy stretches are actually increasing in size rather than decreasing due to erosion. If you were to walk the beaches of Florida at the rate of one mile per day, you would be enjoying the beaches for more than two and a half years. Although this sounds like an enjoyable way to visit the beaches of the state, for most people this is not feasible. Instead, most choose to visit the major beaches, arriving by automobile and spending a day of beach combing, observation of flora and fauna, or just enjoying the sun and the water.
Just a few of the Atlantic beaches of Florida can be noted here. Some are very well known, others are hideaway type expanses of beach where you can walk for miles without seeing another person. Traveling from north to the southern tip of the state, here are some favorite beaches.
JACKSONVILLE/AMELIA ISLAND/AMERICAN BEACH
Beaches in this area are generally wide and sand. They’re typically lined with sand dunes and have a rich natural history including bird locations such as at Huguenot Memorial Park and Fort Clinch State Park. Most beaches in this area do not require access tags. Specific beaches of interest are those near Jacksonville and Little Talbot Island State Park. American Beach is a well known historic and cultural landmark. Founded in 1920 by Abraham Lincoln Lewis, it is a mecca for blacks from across the South as a vacation site.
Accommodations and food are plentiful in the area especially along the main north-south route. You can find everything from Victorian tearooms to high rise resort developments in this section of the coast.
DAYTONA BEACH/NEW SMYRNA BEACH
This 23 mile stretch of the North Central Atlantic Coast is known for its fascinating mix of bustling action and quiet stretches of beach perfect for vacationing families. Most communities have streets that provide beach access. Ormond-By-the-Sea is an example of the largely residential beach community where you can enjoy the sand and surf. Ormond Beach is the location of the Birthplace of Speed Park where the first American timed trials took place.
Daytona Beach of course is well known for the emphasis on racing action, but this beach features an old-fashioned boardwalk, pedestrian only zones and lots of surf fishing and para-sailing.
Canaveral National Seashore provides a barrier island environment with more than twenty miles of undeveloped seashore. You can visit the Eldora House Historical Site and the Turtle Mound Archaeological Site.
There are plenty of accommodations in this stretch, suitable for families with children and mature beachcombers as well.
PALM BEACH
The beaches are wide and flat, lined by gently swaying palm trees and with sparkling white sand. This stretch is a nesting area for sea turtles. Until recently Jupiter Beach has been known only for sand dunes covered with sea grapes and Australian pines. It is now well on its way to being a prime resort area with developed beach areas, some wheelchair accessible areas, plus plenty of well-appointed lodging places and trendy restaurants where you can find any type of cuisine you desire.
Many of the beaches in this area feature lifeguards, picnic grounds, nature trails and even boardwalks where you can enjoy rollerblading or bicycling.
Although Palm Beach itself is known mostly as a playground for the wealthy, you can find much in the area for families on a budget as well. Anyone who considers shopping a recreational activity will be certain to enjoy this stretch of Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
FORT LAUDERDALE
Long known as the destination for college students on spring break from winter bound campuses in the north, the character of Fort Lauderdale has changed in the past few years. Strict policing of the miles of warm sands in the area have resulted in the beaches once again being suitable for families and young children. The wavewall and the promenade along the beach front is the perfect location for soaking up the atmosphere of the old city.

Looking for beach real estate in the Charleston, SC area?  You’ll find 6 beaches in Charleston to choose from, and each one has a different feel to it.

Folly Beach is one of the most popular for residents and tourists.  This is partly because it’s the most accessible beach to downtown Charleston.  It’s also the most affordable for vacation rentals and for buying real estate.  Overall, Folly Beach has a laid back feel to it, and it’s the most popular beach for students and surfers.  You’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars, and beach shops along Center Street, so there’s no need to leave the island to go out.  But, if you want to drive to downtown Charleston, you’re only about 15 minutes away.

Isle of Palms also sees a big demand from home buyers.  It’s the main beach that Mt. Pleasant residents visit, and it also sees a good deal of tourism.  So, if you’re looking for vacation home that you can rent out for vacationers, either of these beaches would be good for getting this additional income.  Part of the island belongs to Wild Dunes Resort (see below), so not all of the island is accessible to the residents.  Isle of Palms is 15-20 minutes from downtown Charleston, so you can easily go downtown for entertainment.  Mt. Pleasant is about a 5 minute drive, so there are a lot of things to do within a quick drive of the beach.

Wild Dunes Resort is a private beach resort located on the northern end of Isle of Palms.  Wild Dunes has great amenities, including several golf courses.  You’ll find a few restaurants (like a grill and a deli), but for the most part, residents leave the resort and go to either Mt. Pleasant or downtown Charleston.  If you’re looking for high end beach real estate with a close proximity to downtown, Wild Dunes may be a good option for you.

Sullivan’s Island is located just south of the Isle of Palms, so it also is conveniently located to Mt. Pleasant and downtown Charleston.  It’s the most historic beach in Charleston, and it’s mostly made up of houses.  You’ll find only a few condo buildings on the island.  There are some beautiful older homes – some date back to the early 1900s.  You’ll also see newer homes, and these can be found more on the beach side of the island.  There are only a couple of restaurants at the entrance of the island, so most residents and visitors leave the island for entertainment.  Although Sullivan’s Island has public beach accesses (like Folly Beach and Isle of Palms), it has a nicer feel to it.  It’s also considerably more expensive than these two beaches.

Kiawah Island is one of the most exclusive beaches in Charleston.  It has the best amenities of any of the beaches – world class tennis facilities and golf courses, pools, a spa, and upscale restaurants.  There is one public access on the southern tip of Kiawah.  It is part of the Charleston County Parks, and has paid admission.  Besides these park-goers, access is restricted to property owners and vacationers who are renting homes on the island.  Kiawah is located further out from downtown Charleston – it’s about a 30 to 40 minute drive.

Seabrook Island is very similar to Kiawah in that it’s a private beach resort, and it’s located directly south of Kiawah.  It also has great golf and tennis amenities, but it also has an equestrian center.  This is one of only a few community equestrian facilities in all of Charleston.  Kiawah and Seabrook have the priciest beach real estate in Charleston and have a high status associated with the areas.  They are also the most natural of the beaches.  They have very strict building guidelines in an effort to preserve the wildlife and natural beauty of the islands.

You cannot visit Southern California without stopping at one of its many wonderful beaches and dipping your toes in the Pacific Ocean. However, if you have a limited time on your visit and can only visit one beach, you may have a difficult time choosing. Which Southern California beach should top your list? Well, it depends on what you’re looking for: Surfing:Huntington Beach: With over 50 surfing competitions held each year in Huntington Beach, plus a Surfing Walk of Fame, Surfers’ Hall of Fame and International Surfing Museum, Huntington Beach, or “Surf City” as some call it, is the place you’ll want to visit to surf and watch surfers in action. Forget your surfboard or boogie board? No problem, you can also rent one in Huntington Beach. You’ll want to visit the pier at Huntington City Beach where you can watch the surfers as well as take in the views, which include Catalina Island, 22 miles away (check out the pay scopes for closer views).
Another reason to go to Huntington Beach is that all three of their beaches (Huntington City Beach, Huntington State Beach and Bolsa Chica State Beach) have concrete fire rings which allow you to have nightly bonfires and cookouts. Swami’s Beach: Located in Encinitas below Seacliff Roadside Park, Swami’s Beach is also a great place to watch the surfers, as it is considered one of the best surfing spots along the San Diego County coastline. Sunbathing and Relaxing:Zuma/Point Dume: Of course, you can sit in the sand and relax at all the beaches in Southern California, but Point Dume and Zuma beaches, approximately 19 miles west of Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway, are the beaches to go to escape the crowded Los Angeles beaches. When driving west on PCH you’ll come to Point Dume first, then Zuma. Point Dume is a little quieter than Zuma, so if you want to lie in the sand and sleep, or read a good book, Point Dume is it. Of course, just because Point Dume and Zuma beaches are great for relaxing, that’s not all there is to do. Some consider Zuma beach one of the finest surfing beaches as well.People Watching:Venice City Beach: Want a quirky beach experience? Then you’ll have to visit Venice Beach, at the end of Washington Street in Venice. There you’ll find skaters, performers and those you’re not quite sure if they’re performing or not. On any given weekend you can be treated to musicians, acrobats, mimes, magicians and other assorted entertainers. You’ll also find restaurants and all sorts of shops along Ocean Front Walk, as well as Muscle Beach, where you can find bodybuilders pumping iron. If you like crowds, you’ll love Venice Beach on the weekend. Fun Out of the Water:Santa Monica State Beach: If you get tired of sunbathing or playing in the ocean, Santa Monica State Beach is great because you have Pacific Park at Santa Monica Pier with rides, games and restaurants. You have to really try hard to be bored at Santa Monica State Beach. Rides include a carousel, roller coaster, bumper cars, motion simulator and a nine-story Ferris wheel with spectacular views. You can also roller blade and ride bikes on the bike bath along the beach.
These are just a sampling of the great beach experiences you can have in Southern California. Just remember to bring and apply your sunscreen, drink plenty of water throughout the day, and enjoy your visit.

No matter where you live, housing prices have plummeted in your area.  Some areas have experienced more significant downturns than others, and South Beach is no exception.

When the housing bubble burst, South Beach was one of the first to start deflating, and it deflated pretty fast.  Condos that had been selling in the half million dollar range suddenly were worth about 70% and less of their recent market value.

Many of the area condos are owned by investors, and a large portion of these investors don’t even live in the United States.  When things got worse, these investors let the banks foreclose, further lowering values on neighboring properties – a real issue with owner occupied units.

For the first time in history, local home owner and condo associations are filing for bankruptcy simply because people are not paying their monthly maintenance fees.  It’s easier for investors to dump the property and take a tax write off at year end, and residents who can’t afford what they used to have to start cutting back somewhere, and one of the first things to go is their monthly maintenance fees.

With no end in sight for the near future, can South Beach ever truly recover?  It seems no one can agree.  Listening to real estate experts and economic gurus makes it sound like they’re from different planets – their opinions are diametrically opposed.

Most financial experts try to assuage our feelings by instilling in us their beliefs that what goes down, must come back up.  How very untrue that is, though!  For anyone who has ever owned Blue Chip stocks – companies that were thought to be solid and good money makers – found out the hard way that AT&T, IBM, GM, and others had run their course.

Will the South Beach market recover?  Sure, maybe some day, but certainly not because the recession ends.

Holden Beach vacations are becoming very popular these days. When families are faced with a choice about a vacation destination, it is either some amusement park, or a beach somewhere. The benefits of beach vacations are very evident, relaxation for adults who need time
off, water sports like surfing and body boarding for teenagers and youngsters, and very large, personal sandbox for the smaller children.
There are thousands of beaches and beach resorts around the world, and hundreds right here in our own back yard, the good old USA. The most popular beaches in the US are those of Southern California, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, etc. There are also lots of popular beaches stretching up the entire east coast, like Holden Beach of North Carolina.
Whatever destination you choose for your next beach vacation, you have lots of options and resorts to choose from. The nice thing is, for families, finances are usually tight. Most every designation that you could choose to vacation at has both luxury and budget conscious individuals in mind. From housing to recreation, you can find something that fits your budget!
One of the very best ways to find information about a particular beach or resort is on the internet. There are hundreds of websites dedicated in delivering information about your desired destination right to your screen. One of my favorite destinations is Holden Beach. There are at least a dozen websites that have excellent information about places to stay, things to do, and things you need to see. You should definitely take the time to research before you make actual vacation plans.
When visiting a beach for vacation, you need to remember to pack everything that you might need. If you are trying to travel on a budget, you have to remember everything or risk not having that idem or having to spend more money purchasing it once you arrive. Thankfully these websites offer you information about what you should bring with you.
When searching for lodging on a beach, especially in Holden Beach, you need to reserve it in advance. Beach properties go very fast especially as early spring starts to creep up on us. Also, when you reserve the property early, you can usually get some sort of discount. Not much, but some!
Family beach vacations are definitely very popular especially at Holden Beach. Don’t think that because you are on a tight budget that a beach vacation is not possible. Do your homework, find deals on travel, lodging, and transportation once you get to your destination and you will have an enjoyable beach vacation.

An annual visit to places like Florida, San Diego for beach vacation must be on everybody’s calendar. As beach vacation gives you chance to relax, catch up on reading, enjoy dinner by the water and to refresh your lungs with fresh sea air.

A beach vacation in other words means basking in the sun by the vast blue sea, and diving into the water occasionally to swim, surf, snorkel, whatever. It can also be a chance to spend much required quality time with your family if you opt for a properly planned family vacation package.

And a beach vacation is not only for romantic couples. A Florida or San Diego beach vacation is actually quite preferred by swimmers, surfers and whole lot of other people with varied interests.

As for the kids, try and forget those buckets and spades and you have had it! Sand castles are a universal favorite for children, across boundaries!

Not to forget the youth, there are options galore for their entertainment. They may visit pubs, discos, clubs, and meet a lot of new people. The social factor is what makes beach vacations memorable one. With so many people milling around the beach, there is always a chance that you would make some new friends and have wonderful time with them. But for that proper planning is must.

Following tips to choose the perfect destination would come handy while planning your next beach vacation:

1. Do spend time to check out the location’s reputation as to what they have to offer and if it suits your vacation’s aim. Like if it is a subdued and relaxing vacation you have in mind, you don’t want to spend it at Daytona Beach during springs or

if it is the girl’s getaway you are planning you don’t want it to be at a hot spot for single seniors.

2. Enquire about the prices prevailing in the surrounding areas as with popular spots, prices are on the higher side and may be out of your budget while a quiet beach front location just a few miles down the road might be just as beautiful but available at a more reasonable price.

3. If you are going for a family vacation package, ask the hotel or resort you are going to stay in about their policies regarding kids and pets. Some popular resorts also offer kid-specific programming so parents can have a getaway too. And, for those who’d rather not play with the tots, there are destinations that advertise as kid-free.

4. Don’t forget to check the weather and the ideal time to visit your favored beach location. It is very important as weather can be the best or the worst thing about your vacation. You don’t want to be in Maine in March, you don’t want to be in Florida for hurricane season, and you don’t want a San Diego beach vacation during the rainy seasons. Browse Internet, ask the local guys, or go through a travel guide to find out the details of weather at your destination around your visit time.

A beach vacation is great idea as you will feel much healthier when you come back! Your skin will have an attractive brown complexion; your muscles will be strengthened from the swimming! You will discover that you have never led such a healthy way of living.
