Asian Carp Crisis vs. B.P.Oil Spill Crisis 2010
From the Bottom of my heart, I dedicate this article to the men and women whose lives have been lost in oil well accidents, Eleven people died when the B.P. oil platform exploded on April 20th 2010. And to their families, and all the families in the United States that are emotionally and financially effected by the B.P. Oil Spill and The Asian Carp Crisis.
Are you wondering how can these two catastrophic environmental issues be compared?
Before I answer the lead question, I’ll tell you about a major decision I’ve made. I’ve decided to raise the level of importance of the Asian Carp invasion to a CRISIS level. The longer time goes by without stopping the advancement of the Asian Carp the level of danger is raised. I will from now on be calling this issue the “Asian carp Crisis,” until the advanced migration of the Asian carp is stopped
How did I arrive at this decision? It is like a war against the Asian Carp. It is a battle we need to fight against. But the Asian carp are advancing as we live and breathe daily. They are continuing to attack the environment we live in. And they are destroying the fresh water ecosystems that we need for very basic survival of human life on planet earth. Our United States Governments, local, State and Federal are taking no action to stop the exploding population of this invasive, environment destroying, life sucking species.
What are we as a society doing to combat this Crisis? My opinion is we are doing nothing to stop the advancement of the destructive Asian carp. Three times the U.S. Congress has been asked to take action on this issue, and three times they have refused to take action. The state of Michigan joined with other surrounding states to ask Congress to close off the flow of water between Lake Michigan and the Illinois River.
The Asian carp have been migrating north from the Deep South since 1970. They have migrated up the Mississippi River 1,506 Miles. Asian Carp have migrated northerly from the mouth of the Illinois River 273 miles to the Des Plaines River and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship canal. The distance from the Illinois River to Lake Michigan, through the Chicago ship and sanitary canal is only 28 miles. But if you go through the Cal-Sag canal it is only 15 miles to Lake Michigan.
And the Army Corp of Engineers is leading the American citizens to believe that Asian Carp have not migrated into Lake Michigan. I am insulted by the Army Corp and the US Congress that they think I will believe Asian Carp have not already advanced to Lake Michigan by way of the Chicago Ship and Sanitary canals. I will not stick my head in the sand, put on blinders and let the Asian Carp continue to destroy the beauty and bounty of the Great lakes that represent 30% of the fresh water that is on our planet. I believe the Asian Carp Crisis was created by The Environmental Protection Agency and they are continuing to try to cover that up. And worse than that, they are failing to take action to stop what is happening.
The continued lack to take action will ultimately devastate The 7 Billion dollar annual sport and commercial fishing industry of Lake Michigan. The Same devastation will be imposed on the rest of the Great Lakes, If we do not take Action Now to stop the Asian Carp population from exploding into Lake Michigan.
But what about the comparable devastating B.P. (British Petroleum) oil spill disaster also happening as I write this?
How does this compare to the Asian Carp Crisis?
There are 3 Short answers:
# 1 They are both disasters of epic proportion! http://hubpages.com/hub/Asian-Carp-Invasion-Resolution-Step-By-Step
# 2 They both will leave a void in our society and economy ! http://hubpages.com/hub/Water-Traffic-or-Asian-Carp-Who-will-Decide
# 3 They both are devastating to our environment ! http://hubpages.com/hub/Water-Traffic-or-Asian-Carp-Who-will-Decide
Our Federal, State and local governments have allowed oil companies to drill off shore for oil. This is a good this for our country. But there is not a plan to cap an oil rig collapse at sea? Why was there not a very specific, documented plan to attack this type of accident? I am insulted again by Government! They will strictly enforce U.S. citizens to pay their income taxes, whether you have a job, or not. But there is no plan to avoid the largest environmental disaster in history? And the company and responsible owners continue to make multi-Billions annually and will get every possible tax break they can to pay less income tax as well. What is wrong with this picture?
The BP oil company is allowing 210,000 gallons of crude oil a day to dump into the ocean waters in the Gulf of Mexico about 40 miles off the shores and beautiful beaches of Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabmama, Florida, and Texas. The oil is devastating bird life. The area where the oil slick is coming ashore is one of the largest fish and wildlife refuges in the world.
The spilled oil is devastating the shrimp population. The shrimp fishing has been stopped (By Law). Shrimp fishing is one of the largest sources of income on the Gulf coast. All crab fishing has been halted (By Law).
All other forms of commercial fishing have been ordered to stop (By Law). Shrimp, fish and other sea life are being contaminated with the crude oil. And if humans ingest any of those contaminated species, they too could become very ill or even die.
It is devastating the endangered species of sea turtles. The oil is damaging the population of whales, squid, jellyfish, pelicans, dolphins, drum fish, tuna, crabs, and virtually every living form of life that comes into contact with.
What are the effects of this tragedy? Short term effects are higher food prices for the food that is harvested in the Gulf of Mexico. There is also a huge loss of income for the businesses in the Gulf of Mexico that rely on the fishing industry for supporting their families. Billions of dollars will be spent on cleaning up the oil.
The long term effects are certainly financial devastating for the gulf coast area. If the ecosystem is able to recover it will take many decades. But the truth is that the environment in the Gulf of Mexico may never recover to be as productive as it was. I believe there is no way to figure the huge dollar amount of damage done economically or environmentally, and emotionally. Do you think B.P. is hiding some things ? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/05/7-secrets-bp-doesnt-want_n_563102.html
But what I can say for sure is that the epic proportion of this BP oil disaster could have been prevented.
And also the epic disaster we face with the Asian Carp Crisis can be avoided at this time. But in the near future the Asian Carp Crisis will explode into Lake Michigan if we do not take action now

Choose Your Pefect Wedding Theme

Beach Theme Wedding: Whether you plan a beach wedding on a tropical island, a cruise ship wedding, or even a beach resort, you have a lot of options in choosing wedding favors, your gown and decorations. You can choose weddings favors such as Personalized Beach Theme cookies in the shape of bathing suits, shorts or umbrellas. Flip Flop coasters or candles to fashion the tables, or maybe even Custom Labeled Sparkling Water Bottles instead of Wine Bottles. Your centerpieces can be Miniature Palm Trees or any other tropical flower such a Birds of Paradise. The lighting can consist of Round Paper Lanterns if you are having a more informal or beach side wedding. Your gown can be free flowing and breezy using a light fabric such as chiffon.
Fairytale Theme: There probably won’t be a day when you feel more like a princess than your wedding day. To bring the fantasy of a fairy tale wedding to life, it doesn’t take a castle or a white horse, just a little attention to the details. Choose a dress with cap sleeves, a corset, or elaborate beading to give it the princess look. For decorations, garlands of pink roses, and gold ribbon. Place large glass bowls of water with floating candles or flowers on tables for the centerpieces. Instead of round tables, go for long banquet tables. Serve wine in large studded goblets. Use a castle or horse-drawn carriage as a motif for invitations, programs, and party favors.
Asian Theme: Beautiful sandalwood hand fans are wonderful for outdoor, summer weddings. Frosted Chinese takeout box candle holders set the mood. Custom fortune cookies are the perfect way to end a dinner. Asian theme wedding favors commonly feature bright colors and nature motifs. Red and gold are celebratory colors in many Asian cultures, representing happiness and prosperity. You can opt for Mini Bamboo Plants, Mini-Teapots accompanied with some fresh loose green tea, engraved wooden chopsticks, or even Mini-Asian Inspired Designed Candles.
Decade Theme: The Roaring 20′s all the way through to 80′s Retro make a wedding fun and fabulous! For the Roaring 20′s hire a jazz band, and teach everyone the Charleston. For décor, think art deco. Ostrich feathers and strings of pearls make appropriate table decorations. For fun, set out a few decks of playing cards, or a game of croquette.
How about 40′s Swing? Hire a Big Band and ask the gentleman guests to wear baggy suits and the ladies vintage dresses. Decor should be simple and modest; some understated flowers in a classic glass vase, and candlelight.
Psychedelic 60′s: For all you hippies out there, this is the perfect wedding theme. Peace and Love is the overall theme of a 60′s style theme wedding. Dress up the reception with wild flowers and a dove motif for a softer look. Or to go all out, use lava lamps in the centerpieces, peace signs, and happy faces on programs, and place cards. For party favors you can make tye dye shirts or even mood enhancing incense kits. Instead of the limo or horse and carriage you can rent a VW Beetle to drive off in the sunset together.
70′s Disco: Strobe lights, a disco ball and you’re set! Have the DJ teach your guests to *Do the Hustle*! For favors, try to find fun, nostalgic 70′s novelty items, such as lava lamps, 8-track tapes, latch-hook rugs, and mini disco balls.
Retro 80′s: Since the 80′s is still a pretty recent decade, creating an 80′s theme should be quite easy. A tribute to the 80′s would definitely have to include music from the decade. That should be easy since 80′s music is the most fun to dance to anyway! For fun favors and table decorations, send guests down memory lane with items like Rubik’s Cube, some garbage pail kids trading cards, He-Man and She-Ra action figures, and Bubblicious bubble gum.
Singapore as a tourist hub needs no introduction. Tourists visiting this exotic location exceed the 10 million count every year, which well corroborates its significance in the world map. To attract more tourists, the Singapore government has even decided to legalise gambling besides also allowing the development of two casino resorts at Sentosa and Marina South. The natural beauty and architectural splendor are no doubt the plus points but the lighting of the civic and commercial buildings of the city area at night has further transformed it into a more exciting place. Foodie freaks will find Singapore worth the visit more so if a visit is made in the month of July, the period when the Singapore Food Festival is held every year to celebrate Singapore’s cuisine. With over 2000,000 foreigners seeking medical care each year, Singapore is also deemed a medical tourism hub.
No matter what your purpose of visit is, you can easily get an accommodation in any of the hotels in Singapore. Few of the three star hotels in Singapore worth mentioning are Albert Court, Chinatown, Bayview, Copthorne Orchid and more. You may also opt staying in Ascott Raffles Place, Crowne Plaza, Four Seasons all five star hotels in Singapore.
Two more destinations most visited in Asia are Malaysia and Macau not to mention about Shanghai, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, etc. All these exotic locations are rich in natural splendor and cultural heritage. And return flight trips to these places including accommodation in hotels in Malaysia, hotels in Macau, and hotels in the other cities are affordable. Few of the hotels in Malaysia worth mentioning are Bukit Tinggi, Cameron Highlands, Cherating, Damai Beach, Damai Laut, Genting Highlands, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kota Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and the list goes on.
Amid the four star hotels in Macau are Casa Real, Casa Real (Elite), Golden Dragon, Grandview, Metropark, Grandview, Holiday Inn, Emperor, and more. If you want to cut down on the cost on accommodation, choose the three star hotels in Macau such as Beverly Plaza, Fu Hua, Guia, Metropole, Best Western Taipa, etc.
